ADDITIONAL MOCKUPS

WEEK 5: JUNE 30-JULY 6

PROGRESS:

Edited the Academic Seal logo to be inspired by the same mountain range found in the primary logo.

Designed a variety of additional design elements: Riverhawk Wormark logo, Riverhawk Wing logo, Riverhawk Rising Pattern, and RISE wordmark.

Created several key mockups using the full logo suite.

WEEK 5:

  • Academic Seal - Final Version

Riverhawk Rising Pattern

*I decided to add a pattern element inpired by the flight of a rising osprey's wing. The chevron shape is already a common symbol for the flight of birds, including a connection the shape of that migratory birds make (the flying "v").

An additional community connection is that the iconic train pattern found on the fronts of many of Heber Valley's trains.

Academic Seal - Secondary Logo
*I updated the Academic Seal by drawing from the mountain inspiration found in the Primary Logo (the Wasatch Mountains). This is the most iconic and recognizable mountain range.

WEEK 4: JUNE 23-29

PROGRESS:

Went through the full sketching phases for the Alternative Logo for the Full Body Riverhawk. Focused on capturing the School Creed of "RISE" in the motion of Riverhawk.

Created the finished vectored versions of the Alternative Logo. Added a community inspiration using the shape of the Deer Creek Reservoir in the shading of the Riverhawk.

Created the Academic Seal for the school capturing the general landscape of the mountain range mixed with the reservoir. Also created a secondary version that uses the School Motto "Rise with Purpose, Soar with Pride".

WEEK 4:

  • Alternate Logo Sketches - Full Body Riverhawk

Final Draft Sketches - Full Body Riverhawk
First and Second Draft Sketches - Full Body Riverhawk

*After reviewing my first draft sketches I liked both the front view open wing version and the side view in-flight version because they embodied the word RISE the best. I chose to stick with the side view so that it would have a stronger relationship with the primary Riverhawk head logo and be unique compared to the other Utah High School with a Riverhawk mascot.

Only one school in Utah shares the Riverhawk mascot. This is their logo. While I really like the open wing pose and it fits the RISE theme, I want to make sure there is no confusion with the other school.

WEEK 3:

  • Selected DC Lettermark Combination

After feedback from Tuesday's class I revisited the idea of what to build my Lettermark logo off of. Both options use the official title typeface font of Sultan.
-Option 1 includes altering the proportions of the letters and
adding a serif to the bottom of the C.

-Option 2 includes only the altering of proportions.

I researched the standard practices behind University letter and wordmarks. All of the universities that I looked up had alterations of the Lettermark typeface compared to the wordmark. The closest matches were Oregon, Wisconsin, and Arizona, however there are still alterations found in those. Its seems that the Lettermark is rarely an exact match to the wordmark/official school typeface and the Lettermark becomes a complimentary logo that is often loosely tied to the typeface.

Since I leaned towards option 1 in my initial thoughts of which "DC" base to work with I feel it is okay to have multiple alterations from the original typeface.

This is a side by side look at the base of the Lettermark compared to the original Sultan typeface used in the Wordmark. I decided to keep the letters more of a square proportionally and alter the serif on the bottom of the C to have a stronger visual balance.
